  1. Dying culinary arts. The joys of Wensleydale cheese with apple pie.

    When you begin to explore cooking from scratch and not using packaged food it is necessary to look to traditional recipes in old books. Modern cookbooks pander to the supermarket marketing spin of “choose a recipe, then go source it”. This leaves you with wastage of half used packaged ingredients. Whereas traditional cooking goes by what is seasonal.

    Out of that come pairings of ingredients lost to fashion, like this, Wensleydale cheese and apple pie, or Eccles cakes and Stilton. Let’s bring it back. Please.

  2. I found Shannon Bennett’s Melbourne Writers Festival chat and chew at Vue de Monde inspiring. He’s mellowed from the wild boy at the original Drummond Street venue but hasn’t lost his enthusiasm and inspiration.

    His comments on Crif Dogs and PDT in NY’s east village have inspired me to possibly have a bit of fun with a pop-up venue in the future.
